Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868 –1928) was a Scottish architect, watercolorist, and artist. His artistic approach had much in common with European Symbolism. His work was influential in European design movements such as Art Nouveau and Secessionism. Mackintosh was born in Glasgow and died in London. Mackintosh enjoyed working with furniture, textile design, and metalwork and also closely involved with the interior design. He worked well with his wife Margaret, and frequently it was she who provided the detailed drawings for interior designs. Throughout their career, Mackintosh and Margaret experimented with stylized roses, and the Mackintosh rose motif recurs in much of their art. The Rose&Teardrop is the most iconic design in the Mackintosh series. This luxurious design depicts teardrops gently falling on the deep pink roses. Twenty roses were created in the original artwork, and each rose is uniquely designed. The actual drawing may have been created by Margaret Mackintosh. The Art of Tapestry Tapestry is an ancient art dating back over 2000 years. In the UK and Europe, tapestry art was most prominent during the middle-ages. Barons and knights would adorn their castle walls with them for both decoration and warmth. A tapestry is started by stretching plain warp threads on a loom to create a grid. The coloured weft threads are then weaved in and out of the warp threads, building up a complete tapestry. Our production method uses modern mechanical looms which greatly speeds up what used to take weeks or months by hand. A special characteristic of each Signare bag is that each one is unique.
